Stormy Weather

Storm Center

As hurricane season dawns on the U.S., DETCOG is keeping an eye out for storms that may affect Deep East Texas. Check this page regularly, for updates from the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service.

Updates for the Region

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most of Deep East Texas (Angelina, Houston, Nacogdoches, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, and Trinity Counties).  A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Jasper, Newton, and Tyler Counties.  Travel will become hazardous late Sunday and overnight into Monday morning.

We urge all residents of Deep East Texas to monitor your local weather forecast, avoid unnecessary travel, and heed any advisories which may be issued by your local authorities.

Due to road conditions in our region, the DETCOG office will remain closed all day Monday January 11th. We will re-open at 10 am on Tuesday.

The TxDOT website indicates some roadways may not be clear of snow and ice until late today. With a hard freeze predicted tonight, there is also a possibility of remaining moisture on roadways re-freezing tonight. Please continue to be safe.
